Club Info

The Chicago South Swim Club is a non-profit federally tax exempt organization under section 501 (C) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The purposes of the Club are:

1.   To provide an effective training program for the positive development of youth by building character, and developing individual capabilities, through motivation and participation in individual and group instruction for competitive swimming and water sports.
2.   To foster intellectual growth and emotional stability in youth through the development of physical and mental preparedness, increasing levels of confidence, and promoting peer recognition and acceptance.
3.   To combat negative behavior leading to juvenile delinquency.

The basic activity of the Club is the year-round provision of intensive training in competitive swimming for young people four (4) years of age through eighteen (18) years of age with the goal of producing world class swimmers. The Swim Club recognizes competitive swimming / water sports as a vehicle to constructively impact the mental and physical development of young people. The Club is committed to the concept that physical growth and well being is crucial to intellectual growth and emotional stability in youth.

Competitive swimming / water sports is uniquely suited for its role in the constructive development of young people based on several major factors including:

1.   Swimming is recognized as the leading activity for overall physical exercise leading to good health maintenance.
2.   Competitive swimming provides a system of organized age group competition from the age of eight (8) years and under and extends through "Masters" competition which has included competitors in their nineties.
3.   There exists a host of incentives and rewards for skilled swimmers including awards for competitive achievement, employment opportunities requiring the use of swimming skills, college scholarships, etc.
4.   The year-round involvement in swimming activities ensures sufficient time to constructively impact on young people's behavior as opposed to more seasonal oriented activities.
5.   The mastering of swimming skills and techniques provide a level of confidence that is important in the socialization process of young people, and in combating negative behavior.

6.   Through motivational training and participation in swim instruction young people learn discipline; time management; the psychology of optimal achievement both mentally and physically; diet and nutrition; goal setting; and a host of positive values which contribute to achieving successful adult lives.

The Swim Club is a member of United States of America Swimming (USA Swim),  Illinois Swimming Inc. (ISI),  and participates in ISI sponsored age group swim meets throughout the State of Illinois and nationally in other states. The Club also participates in the South Suburban Swim Conference, thus providing trained young people with a host of competitive opportunities to express their learned skills.
